Have you read...
The Pursuit of Holiness
by Jerry Bridges?
Some books you can pick up and read the title and have no idea what the book is about. Not so with this one. The title of this book accurately describes what the content is about. I have had this book in my library for over twenty years, and yet find myself going back to it over and over again. Why? Because as the hymn writer so clearly put it, we are "prone to wander, Lord I feel it, prone to leave the God I love."
The Bible describes David as a "man after God’s own heart." This lets us in on the fact that David pursued with a passion the things of God. Are we doing that? People often say to me, "This old world is going downhill fast" What do they mean by "downhill?"

Usually they are referring to our morals, and a turning away from God and His principles. How does this happen? I think much of it has happened over the course of time by our compromising and giving in to the pressure of a secular and sensual world. Have you every noticed when you first open a two-liter soft drink that there is a loud release of carbonated air. The second time you open it, there is not quite so much, and the third time, even less. Over the course of several days if the soda is not consumed, it will lose all its carbonation, and we call it "flat."
That is what is happens to a Christian’s spiritual life as well. Many Christians today are just plain "flat." They have repeatedly compromised, and watered things down, so that there is no fire, zeal, or hunger for the Lord. This book will really make you ponder your spiritual condition. What could be more important?
The book is pretty short, easy to read, but extremely powerful. Is your spiritual life flat? While I don’t know of a way to make flat Coke get its zip back, I do know how a Christian can regain their fire, zeal, and passion for Christ, it happens in our pursuit of holiness. I hope you will give the book a try. The book is available either through the Church Library or my personal library.
Growing with you in Him,
Bro. Jeff
